In Chinese labor law, compensation and benefits are offered in exchange for a worker’s services, and are defined as falling into three classifications. First are monetary wages, which include ordinary wages but are defined to include bonuses, per diems, and stipends. Second are in-kind compensation, which are goods provided to the worker for their services. Third are social security benefits, which is a government run program employers must offer, covering unemployment, retirement, medical, and other benefits.
