Analysis
Mainland China in Chinese law is a jurisdictional concept encompassing regions of China except for Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This concept is well-known to American law which refers to the border of one of its many states, where a corporation from another state is known as a “foreign corporation” therefore requiring additional business registration. State borders in the United States are currently of primary relevance to regulatory and police enforcement jurisdiction.

In Chinese business analysis, the word ‘domestic’ refers to activities occurring within the borders of China. In American business analysis, referring to a domestic/overseas distinction is adequate because ambiguity over Hong Kong and Macau will likely be immaterial to the business analysis.
